The Politics, Profits of Healing

Should you have the right to decide for yourself what medicines you wish to use?

During most of the 20th century, safe and effective health therapies have been shoved aside in the United States, including many for cancer, while officially-approved therapies have been pushed forward in their stead. This suppression has been dictated by “the medical establishment.”

The medical establishment consists of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the American Medical Association and the National Institutes of Health, which contain the National Cancer Institute (NCI). In addition, there are the American Cancer Society (ACS), the Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, the Mayo Clinic and others. This medical establishment decides what medicines and therapies will be available to Americans and harshly disciplines doctors who venture outside its guidelines.

Even “alternative medicine” is now controlled by the establishment. Thus there are the officially-approved alternatives and then there are the disapproved ones, presumably the ones that work and that do not cost much—hence offering little profit to the medical establishment.

Daniel Haley’s new book, Politics in Healing: The Suppression and Manipulation of American Medicine,* is about those allegedly “unproven” alternatives.

You will not read about these horror stories of the destruction of cures that work in the establishment media. Political patterns of misuse of both public and private power are seen through the lens of what happened to 10 little-known healers and therapies of the 20th century:

Harry Hoxsey, Dr. William F. Koch, Royal Rife, Dr. Andrew Ivy (Krebiozen), Dr. Stanley Jacob (DMSO), colostrum, Gaston Naessens, Drs. Robert Becker and Daniel Kirsch (electromedicine), Dr. Joseph Gold (of hydrazine sulfate fame) and Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski.

The remedies described by Haley are non-toxic, and usually inexpensive. His book is a collection of case histories that should never have happened, stories about dark undercurrents in American medicine.

Most of these therapies discussed by Haley are no longer available—not necessarily because they didn’t work but for political reasons.

These case studies show how the government and prestigious private institutions have deliberately misrepresented, held-back, discouraged, ignored, and suppressed important, inexpensive and non-toxic healing breakthroughs.

The key to maintaining this undesirable situation is the FDA, which tilts predictably and continuously against non-toxic medicines.

Created in 1906, the FDA’s original purpose was to make sure that foods were pure and drugs were safe, but it has drifted far off course.

The FDA frequently appears less interested in protecting Americans from harmful drugs than from harmless ones, especially those capable of competing with prescription drugs. Indeed, as we enter the 21st century, the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. is from reactions to FDA-approved drugs.

On April 14, 1998, the Journal of the American Medical Association published a shocking report, a painstaking analysis of 39 studies conducted over 30 years. The study showed that an average of 106,000 people die in hospitals each year—one every five minutes—from drugs approved by the FDA.

The study does not include cases where drugs were misprescribed. When considering deaths from the same cause outside hospitals, i.e., at home, the number rises to around 140,000 a year, according to Centers for Disease Control statistics.

The fourth leading cause of hospital admissions in the U.S. is from reactions to prescription drugs. About 2.2 million Americans suffer such severe side effects from FDA-approved drugs that some are permanently disabled or require long hospital stays. These side effects were estimated to have cost $78 billion in 1997.

One American dies of cancer every minute, 1,500 a day, 10,000 a week, 500,000 a year. That is the equivalent of three fully-loaded 747s crashing and killing everyone aboard every day, all year long.

Haley’s book is a shocking revelation about what the so-called medical establishment has done to those who try to fight the system by prescribing non-toxic therapies to people suffering from some of man’s worst diseases.

It’s easy to see why the establishment goes to such lengths to destroy medical heretics. Those who profit from such harmful therapies as “chemo” and radiation might be out of business and have to find another way to pay their mortgages if an effective, non-toxic therapy were to come on the market.
