ANGER AT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
HAS HIT THE BOILING POINT

By Victor Thorn
On the evening of March 4, John Bedell strolled into the
Pentagon subway entrance armed with two 9-mm semiautomatic weapons and numerous
magazines filled with ammunition. After opening fire and wounding two security
guards, Bedell was fatally shot, dying later that night.
Investigators discovered that he had driven cross-country from
California to the Washington, D.C.
area prior to the shooting.
Headlines soon declared that not only did Bedell suffer from
lengthy bouts of mental illness, but he also possessed strong “anti-government
leanings,” while also being a 9-11 truther. The connections, of course, implied
that anyone who distrusts the government or doesn’t accept their “official
explanations” is violent and off his rocker.
After all, look at Joe Stack. He hated the tax system, and
then flew his plane into an IRS building. Nidal Malik Hasan opposed U.S. wars in Iraq
and Afghanistan, so he opened
fire at an army base in Fort
Hood. James von Brunn
didn’t buy into the Holocaust, which led to him gunning down a guard at a Holocaust
museum.
But instead of seriously analyzing the content of their messages
to determine if there are any broader lessons to be learned from these attacks,
the media immediately brands them all insane. Even more nefariously, groups such
as the Southern Poverty Law Center warn that if “extremist conspiracy theorists”
such as these aren’t kept in check, they’ll grow in strength until another
major homegrown terrorist event like the OKC bombing occurs.
In the case of Bedell, records reveal that he had been institutionalized
four times prior to his onslaught. That single element alone should trigger
some red flags, considering the history of “mentally deranged lone-nut
assassins” who have been used as Manchurian candidates.
More importantly, we need to examine his actual writings to
determine if he was on the mark, or completely deranged.
For starters, Bedell earned a bachelor’s degree in physics
and studied biochemistry while in grad school.
His political views are as follows: “The seizure of the United States
government by an international criminal conspiracy is a long-established
reality,” he stated. He continued, “Such an organization would use its powers
to convert military, intelligence and law enforcement bureaucracies into
instruments for political control and the domination and subjection of society,
while discrediting, destroying and murdering honest individuals within those
services that work to root out corruption and faithfully serve their fellow
citizens.”
Bedell next reasons: “This collection of gangsters would
find it in their interest to foment conflict and initiate wars throughout the
world in order to divert attention from their misconduct and criminality.”
Finally, he concludes, “This organization, like so many murderous governments throughout
history, would see the sacrifice of thousands of its citizens, in an event such
as the Sept. 11 attacks, as a small cost in order to perpetuate its barbaric control.”
If these thoughts make Bedell crazy, then there must be tens
of millions of stark-raving lunatics running around the world. How many people
would agree with every word he said?
Bedell also exerted a great deal of effort in reopening an
investigation into Marine Col. James Sabow’s 1991 “suicide.” An abundance of
evidence links Sabow’s death to Iran-Contra drug trafficking by the U.S. government in Mena,
Ark. and El Toro Air Force Base in California.
Ultimately, Bedell sought to establish “the truth of events
such as the 9-11 demolitions and institutions such as the coup regime of 1963
[after JFK’s assassination] that maintains itself in power through the global
drug trade, financial corruption and murder, among other crimes.”
The case of Col. Sabow is of particular interest. After threatening
to expose the CIA’s narcotics operation at El Toro,
Sabow was discovered shotgunned to death in his backyard.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Services quickly ruled it
a suicide, yet Sabow’s fingerprints were never found on the gun or the shells
loaded into it. X-rays also proved that the victim had been bludgeoned on the
back of his head, resulting in a lump the size of a golf ball.
Lastly, the shotgun and area surrounding him showed a surprising
lack of blood, which is inexplicable because Sabow supposedly placed the barrel
in his mouth and fired.
Bedell—in addition to Sabow’s wife and brother—demanded a
new investigation, but they’ve been stonewalled for nearly two decades.
Instead, government sources and their mainstream media lapdogs revert to labeling
Bedell “an angry, irrational conspiracy theorist.” Or, as Northwest University
criminologist Jack Levin asserts, “He [Bedell] represents a much larger force
in our society today. If one individual is paranoid, we call it mental illness.
If thousands of people share the same paranoia, we call it ideology. There are
thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of Americans who are extremely angry with
the federal government.”
Why do they think individuals such as Bedell, Stack, Hasan
and von Brunn keep appearing on what seems like a regular basis?
Obviously, violence is not the answer. But can there be any
other reason for their actions than they were fed up with an out-of-control and
clearly corrupt federal government that acts without any regard for its
citizenry.
