Victims of the U.S. attempt to halt the insurrection in Fallujah

Arab satellite news network Al Jazeera is reporting that fierce street battles between resistance fighters and coalition forces in Fallujah, population 300,000, resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Iraqis and the wounding of thousands. Twenty-five of those killed were from one family. Employing helicopters and jets, coalition forces reportedly fought in residential neighborhoods, shutting down the main road to the hospital. In the ensuing chaos, “everyone walking in the streets . . . has become a target,” reported Ahmad Mansur, in a live report from the besieged town. “The residents of Fallujah are asking, ‘Where is the (U.S. appointed) Iraqi Governing Council?’ ” said Mansur. “They are asking why are the Iraqis not protecting them? Residents of Fallujah call on the Arab world to intervene and lift the siege on this town,” said Mansur before he reportedly threw himself to the ground as a jet flew over.
